Good to Go Discharge Instructions


How many times have you sat thinking about exactly what your instructions were after a doctor's appointment or hospital stay? Using advanced technology, patient care continues after hospital discharge at Cullman Regional Medical Center (CRMC). 

“We want to make absolutely sure our patients are good to go at discharge and feel comfortable with their care plan when they return home,” said Cheryl Bailey, chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services.  

To improve patient understanding and compliance of discharge instructions, CRMC uses the Good to Go healthcare education application Vocera Care Transition to record and personalize patient discharge session(s).

Using Good to Go on an Apple iPod device, CRMC caregivers capture “live” audio instructions as well as educational videos, pictures and documents that are specific to the care of each patient. After hospital discharge, patients can listen to or review their personal care instructions anytime using any phone, mobile device, or computer to clarify follow-up appointments, medication information and more. Family members and other caregivers can also access the recorded instructions using the patient’s unique ID number and login information.

“Good to Go is a valuable, easy-to-use tool that puts discharge instructions and healthcare education at our patient’s finger tips,” Bailey said. 

With Good to Go, CRMC is extending its relationship patients and engaging them and in their family in care beyond the hospital walls.
