The program consists of scheduled, individually prescribed exercise sessions for approximately one hour, three times a week for approximately one hour, three times a week for 12 weeks. Exercise is prescribed according to the participant's abilities and increased as tolerated. The patient's heart is constantly monitored on telemetry during all exercise periods. Blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm, oxygen capacity and overall response to exercise are carefully monitored. A variety of exercise equipment is available to participants including a rowing machine, stationary bicycles, treadmills, arm ergometer, steps, weight training and an indoor track for walking. Registered nurses are present at all times. The referring physician is kept informed of the individual's progress.
Education is an important part of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. Patients and family members are encouraged to attend the educational component of the program. The classes, which cover prevention and risk factor modification, are conducted by a physician, a licensed professional counselor, a registered dietician and a registered nurse.
The Pulmonary Management Program is medically prescribed and supervised so all or part of the cost is covered by Medicare and by most insurance companies. Our business office is prepared to assist in determining insurance coverage as well as to provide information regarding charges and billing.
On completion of the monitored program of exercise, the participant may advance to the Supervised Phase III Program for continued exercise therapy. Each class is supervised by registered nurses. The cost of Phase III per month is not covered by insurance, but is very reasonable.
