Will my insurance pay for a stay in a Nursing Home?

Medicare will pay for a Nursing Home stay with a qualifying stay in the hospital. Other insurances coverage varies according to policy. If you have insurance other than Medicare or Medicaid you should check your benefits to see if a Nursing Home stay is covered under you policy.


What will qualify a patient for a Nursing Home stay?

They must be admitted as an Inpatient and meet medical necessity for admission. Patients cannot be admitted to the hospital solely for Nursing Home placement. Case Management can assist in determining if criteria met.


If I take my family member home & find I can’t take care of them, can they still go to a Nursing Home?

Yes, if they had a qualifying stay as an Inpatient in the hospital and are admitted to a Nursing Home within 30 days of discharge from the hospital.


Who is eligible for Home Health Care?

Anyone who is homebound and has an order from the MD for an eligible service such as Home Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, IV Medications or wound care.


Can the patient transfer by ambulance to the Nursing Home/Home?

If there is a documented reason of medical necessity for ambulance transfer.
